Espinosa's meteorological sermon reached its crescendo with the annihilation of all flora and fauna, leading to a world where humans meditate atop skyscrapers, monks of a new order, grieving for the loss of the last known bamboo tree. The pandas, by then, of course, will be a myth, relegated to a mere footnote in the annals of history. Just when you thought Espinosa's theatrical approach to the climate crisis couldn't get any more chilling, she introduced an unexpected plot twist. As expected, it wasn't a saving grace in the form of proactive measures or dramatic emission cuts. Instead, representatives were treated to skillful fear-mongering and pressured into drastic action to combat the climate apocalypse. The now-ritualistic tradition of hinting blame at countries questioning the severity of climate change was given, as per tradition, a veiled yet unmistakable undertone. Granted, the issue of climate change is critical and deserves immediate attention. However, one can't help but wonder if all the doom prophecy might possibly be counterproductive. Maybe some positivity, encouragement, and celebration of the work that is already being done might have a better effect than presuming an imminent Armageddon.
