Goran Vrbanc was born in Zagreb, Croatia, and began his basketball career in his hometown. He attended the University of Zagreb, where he played for the school's basketball team. After finishing college, he joined the KK Zagreb club and played in the Croatian A-1 League. During his time in Zagreb, Goran quickly established himself as one of the best players in the league.
