SpaceX is ready to launch its historic Crew-6 mission to the International Space Station (ISS) tomorrow (Feb. 27). The mission will be the first to use SpaceX's Crew Dragon spacecraft, which will be launched atop a Falcon 9 rocket. NASA and SpaceX held a prelaunch teleconference on Saturday (Feb. 25) to discuss the upcoming mission. Earlier in the week, the rocket and spacecraft were rolled out to Launch Pad 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Cape Canaveral, Florida. The Crew-6 mission will be the first of six planned crewed missions for SpaceX, which is working in partnership with NASA. The mission will also be the first to use the Crew Dragon spacecraft, which is designed to ferry astronauts to and from the ISS. The mission will be commanded by NASA astronaut Shane Kimbrough, with NASA astronaut Megan McArthur and Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) astronaut Akihiko Hoshide serving as pilot and mission specialist, respectively. European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Thomas Pesquet and NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson will serve as mission specialists. The Crew-6 mission is set to launch at 6:11 a.m. EST on Monday (Feb. 27). After launch, SpaceX's Crew Dragon Endeavour spacecraft will carry the astronauts to the ISS, where they will spend six months conducting research and experiments. The mission marks a major milestone for SpaceX, as the company continues to make strides in its efforts to make commercial space travel a reality. It also marks the first time a Japanese astronaut has been part of a SpaceX mission. NASA and SpaceX are both confident that the mission will be a success, and are looking forward to the launch tomorrow.
