Today, they unveiled GPT-4 Turbo, an artificial intelligence model so advanced, it may just start managing your grocery lists and unintentionally judging your diet. GPT-4 Turbo, the minivan of the AI world, was introduced at OpenAI's first-ever developer conference by the company’s leader, who had to pause for applause multiple times as the tech community gasped in awe of an artificial intelligence that could potentially replace the timeless art of forgetting your shopping list at home. The model, according to OpenAI, is 'more powerful' and less expensive, because what the world needs is a budget-friendly way to make homemade lists obsolete. Now, the need to remember if you're out of milk or if you've eaten spam three meals in a row can be delegated to your computer. OpenAI has released two versions of GPT-4 Turbo. The first one is your average, run-of-the-mill text-analyzing model. But why stop there when you could have a text and image context-understanding model? This means the AI can draw conclusions from images or text, or probably figure out that you've been trying to work on that novel about sentient pickles for three years. The text-analyzing version is available for preview, via what is charmingly called an API, starting today. OpenAI's plan to make both models generally available 'in the c[oming weeks]' is a timely reminder that you'll soon be able to offload your pitiful human fallibility onto a machine. So, get ready to say goodbye to the days of accidentally buying two bags of flour because you forgot you’d already bought some last week.
