Fernando Tatis Jr. broke out of his spring slump in a big way on Saturday, recording his first two hits of the spring in the San Diego Padres' 10-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox. Tatis, who had been 0-for-16 this spring, got off the schneid in the first inning with a smash shot off the glove of White Sox shortstop Erik Gonzalez for a single. The hit came against former teammate Mike Clevinger. In the fourth inning, Tatis added a two-run double to extend the Padres' lead. The hits were the first in 526 days for Tatis, who missed all of last season due to injury. "It felt great to get back out there and get some hits," Tatis said after the game. "I'm just trying to get my timing back and get my swing back. I'm still working on it, but it felt great to get those hits." The Padres are hoping that Tatis can return to his 2019 form, when he hit .317 with 22 home runs and 53 RBIs in 84 games. "Fernando is a tremendous talent and we're excited to have him back in the lineup," Padres manager Jayce Tingler said. "He's been working hard and it was great to see him get those hits today. We're looking forward to seeing what he can do this season."
