In a case of life imitating an over-the-top made-for-TV movie, Brian Walshe, a man driven by the paranoid delusion that his wife was cheating on him, has taken his husbandly duties of ferreting out marital infidelity from private investigator, to crowbar-wielding menace, to full-on human shredder. The story began as many tales of jealousy do, with Mr. Walshe unable to find solid evidence of his wife's illicit activities but being absolutely sure she was courting some randy, rough-skinned tree surgeon on the side. Consequently, this loving and devoted husband did what any stricken partner would do and hired a professional sleuth to gather evidence whilst he camped out in his car suspiciously sniffing the mail every day. But when the private detective came up empty-handed and Mrs. Walshe continued to occasionally smile and leave the house, our protagonist's suspicions turned to fury, and the humble crowbar became his weapon of choice. Perhaps he thought it would beat some honesty out of her oven, which he apparently destroyed in a frenzied attack. However, it seems that even a crowbar couldn't sate the ravenous jealousy gnawing at Brian Walshe's soul. Horrifyingly, he proceeded to live out every twisted fantasy that the darkest recesses of his mind could conjure by inflicting a brutal and gruesome fate on his allegedly unfaithful spouse, whom he murdered and dismembered in what must surely be the ultimate act of supreme devotion. Now, as the police and prosecutors piece together the macabre carnage left behind in the wake of this monumental love story, we can only wonder what romantic gestures this man still had up his sleeve, had he not been apprehended. Perhaps a candlelit dinner for two, with her finely chopped fingertips as the main course? We may never know. In the meantime, Brian Walshe has been dragged into the limelight, where his private anguish has become a public spectacle. One can only imagine the sordid details that will emerge as the case progresses, shedding further light on the true depths of passion that can drive a man to take love to such deadly extremes.
