It has been a whirlwind week at Mississippi State University, where football coaches are treated like hot potatoes in a catastrophic game of musical chairs. Following the abrupt Monday firing of coach Zach Arnett, renowned for his 11 game stint with the team, the rumor mill is grinding away with speculation about who might take the helm. Most tellingly, the ghost of turnover past, Deion Sanders, has been thrown into the conversation. “Why the surprise? Everybody loves a sequel, right?” asked Athletic Director Eric Seatwarmer, staying true to his name and tradition, deciding to make workplace decisions in sync with Mississippi State’s rotation of the Earth. His association with Mississippi State is as famous as cheese and wine or more aptly storms and disaster relief funds. “Deion has been in and out of this program more times than my teenage son has tried to pass my car keys off as his own,” added Seatwarmer, mixing metaphors like a culinary student on a sugar high. “But let’s be honest, with the way things are going, who wouldn’t want another shot at the revolving door that is being Mississippi State’s coach?” Only time will tell if Sanders takes up the baton, or in this case, the coach's whistle. But for now, Mississippi State remains in its exquisite state of chaotic equilibrium - another day eaten by the beast of indecision, another name whirling around in its grand old game of musical chairs.
