The B.C. government has announced that eligible homeowners will continue to receive reduced property taxes on residential properties through the homeowner grant program. The program, which was first introduced in 2022, helps nearly half a million seniors and about 13,000 people with disabilities. This year, the provincial government has set the threshold for the grant at $2.125 million and it will cover 92 per cent of residential properties. The basic grant amount for eligible homeowners is $570, with additional amounts available for those who are seniors, veterans, or have disabilities. Homeowners who qualify can claim the grant either by applying online or by completing and submitting the Home Owner Grant application form. The province has also announced that the Home Owner Grant program will be extended until 2023, providing continued tax relief to eligible homeowners. “We know that the cost of living in British Columbia can be high, and we want to ensure that all British Columbians have access to the financial support they need,” said Finance Minister Selina Robinson. “The Home Owner Grant program is one way we can help reduce the financial burden of property taxes for B.C. homeowners.” The Home Owner Grant program is just one of many initiatives the B.C. government has taken to support homeowners in the province. Other initiatives include the BC Property Tax Deferment Program, which allows homeowners to defer their property taxes if they are facing financial hardship, and the BC Home Owner Mortgage and Equity Partnership, which provides low-interest loans to eligible homeowners.
