The Philadelphia Phillies are optimistic that star outfielder Bryce Harper could make an early return to the lineup after undergoing reconstructive right elbow surgery in March. While there is no definitive timeline for his return, the team is leaving open the possibility for him to return much sooner than the All-Star break. Harper, who signed a 13-year, $330 million deal with the Phillies in 2019, has been rehabbing diligently in hopes of returning to the field as soon as possible. Phillies manager Joe Girardi said he is "optimistic" that Harper could return shortly after the All-Star break. "We're hoping he can come back a little earlier than that, but we'll just have to wait and see," Girardi said. "He's doing everything he can to get back out there as soon as possible." Harper has been a key part of the Phillies' success since joining the team, hitting .260 with 34 home runs and an .882 OPS in 2019. He was also an All-Star in 2018 and 2019 as well as the National League MVP in 2015. The Phillies are currently in second place in the NL East with a 25-18 record. They will hope to have Harper back in the lineup soon to help them make a push for the playoffs.
